Example: 100000

Result

Supply Price
100,000
VAT (10%)
10,000
Total Amount
110,000

Formula and decision logic

VAT calculation either adds tax to a supply price or extracts tax from a tax-inclusive total, depending on the mode you choose.

Total = supply price + VAT

Supply price = total / 1.1 when VAT is 10%

Worked examples

Add VAT

Input: Supply price 100000

Result: VAT 10000, total 110000

Extract VAT

Input: Total 55000

Result: Supply price 50000, VAT 5000

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Enter the supply price or total price
  2. 2Enter the VAT rate
  3. 3View the calculated VAT amount and total

How to read the result

  • Choose the correct input mode first, because supply-price mode and total-price mode solve opposite problems.
  • The tax amount is not always obvious from the final total, so extraction mode helps when invoices are tax-inclusive.

Common input mistakes

  • Entering a tax-inclusive amount while the calculator is still in supply-price mode.
  • Assuming the VAT amount is always exactly 10% of the total instead of 10% of the supply price.
